Hyde Square

The Heart of MAM

Hyde Square is a 10,000-square-foot courtyard that is free and open to the public during all museum hours. Named for philanthropists Barbara and Pitt Hyde, it's the heart of MAM — a central gathering space for visitors to meet, rest, play, and connect in an art immersive outdoor environment designed for year-round enjoyment.

Hyde Square extends the museum's curatorial program into the open air with rotating art installations and views of the museum’s interior galleries and serves as the primary venue for the museum's largest community events and live performances.

More Art

Art installations will rotate through the courtyard on an ongoing basis, extending the museum's curatorial program into the open air. Surrounding the courtyard on all sides is the continuous single-story gallery loop.

Lively Year-Round

The courtyard will serve as the primary venue for the museum's largest community events, outdoor exhibitions, and live performances. The river is visible beyond the building's southern edge, providing a natural backdrop for events and daily gatherings.

Designed for Memphis Summers

A 15-foot overhang surrounds the perimeter of the courtyard, providing shade and pulling in cooler air during summer months. A shade tree and ample seating throughout the space make it usable year-round.
