Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 1, 2026

The Memphis Art Museum ("the Museum," "we," "us") respects your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect when you visit our website or use our online services, how we use and share it, and the choices you have. It applies to this website and to the online forms, ticketing, registration, newsletter, and giving tools linked from it. It does not apply to other websites we link to.

Information we collect

Information you give us

  • Forms and inquiries: your name, email address, phone number, organization, and the details of your message when you contact us, request a field trip or school program, inquire about renting a space, ask about membership or giving, express interest in volunteering or careers, or sign up for our email newsletter.
  • Tickets and registrations: contact details and the information needed to register you for events, programs, and exhibitions.
  • Donations and memberships: contact details and gift or membership details. Payment card information is entered with our payment processors and is not stored on this website.
  • Correspondence: anything else you choose to send us.

Information collected automatically

When you use the website, we and our service providers may collect technical information such as your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you view, the site that referred you, and the date and time of your visit. This is collected using cookies and similar technologies, described below.

How we use information

  • To respond to your questions and requests, and to provide the programs, events, tickets, and services you ask for.
  • To send you email you have asked for, such as our newsletter. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any message.
  • To process donations, memberships, and registrations.
  • To operate, maintain, secure, and improve the website, and to understand how it is used.
  • To measure and improve our outreach and, if you agree to marketing cookies, to show relevant Museum messages on other platforms.
  • To meet legal obligations and to protect the Museum, our visitors, and our website.

Cookies and similar technologies

We use cookies and similar technologies in three groups, which you can accept or decline in the cookie banner when you first visit:

  • Necessary: required for the website to work, for security, and to remember your cookie choices. These are always on.
  • Statistics: help us understand how visitors use the website (for example, with Google Analytics). We set these to "off" until you consent.
  • Marketing: used to measure and deliver advertising. Our advertising pixel (from Meta/Facebook) loads only if you accept marketing cookies.

You can change your choices at any time through the cookie banner or by clearing your browser's cookies, and most browsers let you block or delete cookies in their settings. Blocking necessary cookies may stop parts of the website from working.

How we share information

We do not sell your personal information for money. We share information only as follows:

  • Service providers that help us run the website and our programs, such as website hosting, email delivery, form handling and workflow tools, ticketing and registration (for example, SimpleTix), payment processing, and online giving (for example, Blackbaud). They may use the information only to provide services to us, under their own privacy terms.
  • Analytics and advertising partners, such as Google and Meta, only as described in the cookies section above and only according to your cookie choices.
  • Embedded content from third parties, such as maps and videos (for example, Google Maps, YouTube, and Facebook). When you view or interact with embedded content, that provider may collect information under its own policy.
  • Legal and safety reasons, when required by law or to protect the rights, property, or safety of the Museum, our visitors, or others.
  • Organizational changes, such as a merger or transfer of operations, in which case information may be transferred to the successor organization.

Third-party websites

Our website links to other websites and services we do not control. We are not responsible for their privacy practices, and we encourage you to read their policies.

How long we keep information

We keep personal information only as long as needed for the purposes above, including to meet legal, accounting, and reporting requirements, and then delete or de-identify it.

Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Your choices and rights

  • Email: unsubscribe from marketing email using the link in any message.
  • Cookies: manage your preferences as described above.
  • Your information: you may ask us to tell you what personal information we hold about you, to correct it, or to delete it. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under local law. Contact us using the details below and we will respond as required by applicable law.

Children's privacy

This website is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 through the website. School and family programs are arranged through teachers, parents, and guardians. If you believe a child has given us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
